At just 10 years old, local youngster Leighton (affectionately known as “Bert”) is taking on a challenge well beyond his years – running a 10K race to raise money for charity.
Bert was inspired after hearing about what our own Ali Carnegie achieved earlier this year, completing the Plymouth Half Marathon to raise funds for Gifted Women. Motivated by Ali’s efforts, Bert decided he too wanted to make a difference.
This Sunday he’ll be lacing up for the Scorrier House 10K in Cornwall, with a clear goal: to beat his previous 10K time of 61 minutes and finish in under an hour. An impressive target for anyone – let alone someone who is just 10 years old. His training has been nothing short of remarkable, running before school and even while on holiday.
So who’s Bert running for? He’s fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West, a charity providing vital care and support for seriously ill children and their families.
And the story behind his nickname? “Well, you got my name wrong when you sponsored me. So now you just call me Bert to keep it simple,” he laughs.
At Total Energy Solutions, we’re incredibly proud to support Bert on his journey and we know he’s going to do brilliantly.
