Customer service is ‘bloodline for business’ as firm sees revenue rise

Customer service is the key to success and the ‘bloodline for business’, according to a Cornish businessman.

Ali Carnegie, managing director of Total Energy Solutions, spoke as the company announced a 23% increase in revenue in its financial year ending April 2014.

Since its launch seven years ago, the Stoke Climsland-based energy brokerage, has witnessed a five-fold increase in turnover.

Mr Carnegie said that “going the extra mile and differentiating from the competition” must be a key focal point of any business.

He added: “Customer service is everything, it’s the bloodline for business. Total Energy Solutions is a fast growing company on a crusade to clean up an industry which has been notorious for bad service and chasing commission, rather that caring for clients.

“We are passionate about the high level of service we offer and believe it is the key to success. Professionalism puts you ahead of the competition.

“We want our clients to know they are being offered the best advice in the market, and that it is hassle free. Our clients stay with us because they like what we do and how we do it, not because we tie them into a contract.”

Kathryn Young, finance director of Total Energy Solutions, said: “Within months of setting up the business the credit crunch hit. Despite these difficult trading conditions, we have seen a five-fold increase in turnover over the past seven years.

“We made a strategic decision to offer a level of customer service that is higher than the norm within the industry. Firms often shy away from this, concerned that it may negatively impact their profitability. What we have found is the opposite. High levels of service lead to client loyalty - and client referrals.”

She added that many businesses across Devon and Cornwall were missing out on saving thousands by getting an expert to look at energy contracts.

She added: “The real tragedy is that too many firms are still missing out on thousands of pounds by failing to get a specialist broker to take another look at their electricity and gas contracts.

“Like any commodity, gas and electricity can be bought more cheaply by going through a specialist broker who can shop around. By taking advantage of our free service, firms can save on all the hassle and make savings of up to 40 per cent on their renewal quotes.”
